Abstract :

Optical character recognition is method that extracts comprehendible text from an image by identifying the text present. For this purpose, there is a need to divide the text into individual basic characters that can be identified by the identification mechanism of the OCR. When we talk about Devnagari script, there aren�t many algorithms available that provide good segmentation of characters ready to be used by the identification mechanism. This paper presents a new approach towards segmentation of characters in an image containing Devnagari script.
