A STUDY OF CLINICAL AND EPIDEMIOLOGICAL PROFILE OF DERMATOPHYTE INFECTIONS

Abstract :

  BACKGROUND:

Dermatophytosis  is  a  superficial  fungal  infection  of  keratinized  tissues  of  skin  caused  by  Dermatophytes.  Mode  of  spread  is  by  direct  contact  from  infected  human  beings (Anthropophilic),  animals  (Zoophilic)  and  soil  ( Geophilic)  and  indirectly  from  fomites. It  causes  a  major  public  health  problem  in  hot  and  humid  regions.

 

AIM:

To  study  the  clinical  and  epidemiological  profile  of  Dermatophytoses.

METHODS  AND  MATERIALS:

100   patients  presented  with  clinical  diagnosis  of  dermatophytoses  were  included  in the  study.  Complete  clinical  and  mycological  examination  were  done  in  each  case.

RESULTS:

Commonest  age  group  affected  was  20 – 29  and  30 - 39  years.  Males  outnumbered  females. Commonest  clinical  type  seen  was   tinea  corporis  ( 40%)  followed  by  tinea  cruris  (30%).  Commonest  species  was  Trichophyton  ruum.
