BRINGING LIGHT TO PERINATAL MENTAL HEALTH

Abstract :

The perinatal period refers to the period during pregnancy and one year following delivery. Perinatal mental problems have profound long-term psychiatric and medical consequences for the mother and family. Pregnancy and childbirth are life events in a women life that can be at times acts as a precipitating factor for mental illness. Perinatal mental problems have profound long-term psychiatric and medical consequences for the mother and family. Maternal mental health has to be addressed to reduce maternal morbidity and to have healthy babies. Early screening and treatment of perinatal mental problems has to be integrated with maternal health programs.
