Comparative analysis of Wavelet transform and Fourier transform

Abstract :

This paper analyzes two data analytic methods: Fourier transforms and wavelet transform. Both methods are capable of detecting dominant frequencies in the signals. However wavelet transform is the refinement of Fourier transform. Whereas Fourier transform is only suitable for stationary signal, wavelet is useful for stationary as well as non stationary signal. This paper provides a ief review of both type of transforms and their comparison and shows the superiority of wavelet transform over Fourier transform.
