Efficacy of four layer bandage in treatment of venous ulcer.

Abstract :

 Introduction: Four layer bandaging is easy to perform and less time consuming method used in treatment of chronic venous ulcer . Objectives:1. To study the efficacy of four layer bandage in venous ulcer healing. 2. To study the reduction in venous ulcer area with the use of four layer bandage.Material & Methods: The study was conducted at Smt. KashibaiNavale Medical College & General Hospital, Pune. Total 15 patients were included in study. Results:The average ulcer area was 6.5±2.98 cm2. The change in ulcer area was significant. After two weeks of treatment the ulcer area decreased on average by 1.4 cm2/per week, after four weeks by 1.0cm2/per week and after eight weeks by 0.7 cm2/per week and 0.63cm2/week after 12 weeks. The average loss of area during the whole 12-week observation period was 0.63 cm2/per week. Conclusion: Four layer bandaging is a good alternative for treatment of chronic venous ulcers as it doesn’t require hospitalization.
