Abstract :

India is the second country in the world to introduce a tax on com¬modity futures trading. In 1993, Taiwan imposed a transaction tax of 0.05 percent on the value of the commodity futures contract. It was introduced in India to ing commodity market on par with the securities market as well as to increase the Government Revenue. Apart from revenue potential, CTT would enable authorities track transactions and manipulative activities (Dabba Trading) that undermine market integrity. Hence, CTT plays a key role in Government revenue and tracking of manipulative activities. This paper focuses on the pros and consequences of Commodity Transaction Tax in Indian Commodity Derivative Market.
