Role of Dhataki phuspa (woodfordia fruticosa Kurz.) in pravahika

Abstract :

Ayurveda is the medical science .being one of the world’s oldest medical system . According to Acharya Charaka Ayurveda deals with the preventive and curative aspect of the disease . Ayurvedic texts have mentioned the use of innumerable plants and their preprations in the treatment of various diseases . The two main goals of Ayurveda are to protect the health of a healthy person and to eradicate the disease . These two goals can be achieved with help of Dravya.The imbalance of the tridoshas of body can be treated with the help of Panchbhoutika Dravya. PRAVAHIKA as described in Ayurvedic texts could be compared with Dysentery . Pravahika is diagnosed by the symptoms of Atipravahana ( Tenesmus ), diarrhoea with passage of mucous mixed stool and abdominal Cramps etc .According to Ayurveda, Pravahika is caused by excessive Intake of Katu, Amala, Lavavna, rasa and Guru, Snigdha, Ruksha, Usna, Sheeta, Guna Dravyas, Intake of excessive liquid and Vishmashana, Alpasha, also promotes Pravahika , DHATAKI is very useful in the management of Pravahika According to acharya Charaka, Dhataki is included in purishasangrahaniya and mutraviranjaniya and sandhaniya Ganas, Acharya sushrutha has included dhataki in priyangvada and ambustadi Ganas .Dhataki has astringent properties there by useful in chronic Diarrhoea and Dysentery.
