Abstract :

The purpose of this paper is the experimental investigation of combustion and emission characteristics of an IDI CI engine using SVO (Jatropha) and Diesel blend in 40:60 proportion by volume under different heating conditions.SVO Diesel Blend is more viscous than commercial diesel and less as compared to pure SVO. So as to decrease the viscosity of fuel, different heating conditions (40 C, 60 C, 80 C & 100 C) were developed using counter flow heat exchanger using engines exhaust as the hot working fluid . The results were taken on a range of operating loads using eddy current dynamometer as the loading unit. The combustion characteristics were measured with help of Advanced Combustion Analyzer unit. The Emission characteristics were measured with the help of Smoke meter and 5-Gas Analyzer set up. The test showed significantly improved combustion characteristics and emissions were lowered except for that of NOx for the heated SVO Diesel blend in comparison to baseline diesel at room temperature.
