INTRODUCTION: Although laparoscopic surgery has been available for a long time and laparoscopic cholecystectomy has been performed universally, it is still not clear whether open appendectomy (OA) or laparoscopic appendectomy (LA) is the most appropriate surgical approach for appendectomy. Objectives: To compare results of open appendectomy with laparoscopic appendectomy in terms of following parameters: • Operating time • Duration of postoperative hospital stay Methodology: The study was conducted in Rajendra institute of medical science, Ranchi involving 30 patient during operiod of april 2018 to march 2019 patients who were diagnosed to have appendicitis and requiring surgical intervention. RESULT After randomization, thirty patients each in LA group and OA group were analyzed. The mean age of patients undergoing LA and OA were 24.81 years and 24.98 years respectively. The mean duration of surgery in the laparoscopic group was 54.45 minutes compared to 42.74 minutes in the open group (p=0.042). Duration of postoperative hospital stay was 1.13 days in the laparoscopic group as compared to 3.26 days in the open group
