EFFECT OF LOW GLYCAEMIC INDEX DIET ON GLYCAEMIA IN PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES

Abstract :

Diabetes is fast gaining the status of a potential epidemic in India with more than 62 million diabetic individuals currently diagnosed with the disease. Raised blood glucose, a common effect of uncontrolled diabetes may over time lead to serious damage to the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys and nerves. Glycemic Index (GI) is a scale, which helps in ranking the carbohydrate rich foods, depending on how they affect blood glucose levels in a span of 2–3 hours after having food. The effect of glycaemic index diet has lot of impact on glycaemia patients with type 2 diabetes.
