Finite Element Analysis of Twin Screw Extruder

Sunil G Rajput

Abstract :

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of computer simulation to predict stresses developed on the twin screw surfaces of extrusion or noodling machine. Twin screw extruder is investigated as a noodle extruder. A theoretical description of this type of extruder is therefore outlined in this paper. The analysis of extrusion of filled polymers is complicated especially by the ubiquitous viscoplasticity and wall slip of the filled polymers. A thorough study of this carried out in past. In this paper, the main aspects of that study are given and a few corrections are made as per its application. This chapter ends by giving modelling and finite element analysis of the counterrotating twin screw extruder. Calculated stress value is compared with analysis stress value. Model of twin screw is created with CATIA software and finite element analysis with Hypermesh – Optistruct
