Sakhalkar Sachin, Joshi Prachi

Abstract :

In the present study, antioxidant activities of water, ethanol and ether extracts of petals of Hibiscus rosasinensis L were determined by thiocynate method. Extracts neutralized the activities of radicals and inhibited the peroxidation reactions of linoleic acid emulsion. The antioxidant activities of water extract was noted to be higher in 500µg of abstract added to the linolic acid emulsion. Soxhlet method employed for ether extraction was not suitable. Total antioxidant activity was measured according to thiocynate method. A water soluble Ascorbic acid (vit C) was used as a standard antioxidant compound. Water extract and ethanol extract showed 47.06% and 17.37% respectively in 500µg of extract. On the other hand 500µg of ascorbic acid exhibited 70.59% inhibition on peroxidation
