ASSESS THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE ON ADMINISTRATION OF PSYCHOTROPIC DRUGS AMONG STAFF NURSES

Abstract :

Background: psychiatric medication carry risk for adverse effects. The occurrence of adverse effect can potentially reduce drug compliance. Some adverse effects can be treated symptomatically by using adjunct medications such as anticholinergics. Some rebound or withdrawal adverse effects, including the possibility of a sudden or severe emergence or reemergence of psychosis, may appear when the drugs are discontinued, or discontinued too rapidly. Aim: The aim of the study is to assess the level of knowledge on administration of psychotropic drugs among staff nurses. Objectives: To assess the level of knowledge among staff nurses and to associate the level of knowledge with selected demographic variables. Methodology: A total of 30 staff nurses were selected by sampling random technique. Data is collected through structured interview schedule regarding knowledge on psychotropic drugs. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics.
