Abstract :

To study the prevalence of various β–lactamases among the resistant clinical isolates of P. aeruginosa by phenotypic and molecular methods. To type the resistant isolates by Random Amplification of Polymorphic DNA and Multi Locus Sequence typing. 60 non–repetitive clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa were tested for antibiotic susceptibility. Resistant isolates were tested for various β–lactamases . RAPD was done on 55 and MLST on 27 isolates. Resistance varied from 50–100% to various antibiotic groups and 8.3% to colistin. Out of the 60 isolates 40 were MDR, out of which 31were XDR and 1 was PDR. Various beta–lactamases were identified. 20 were found to be positive for MBL genes, with 4 blaVIM, 8 blaIMP, 1 blaSPM, 7 blaNDM ,Two (13.33%) for ESBL genes by PCR. RAPD of 55 isolates showed 45 distinct patterns . All 27 isolates showed distinct new ST types. This is the first study on ST types of Indian isolates.
