Metabolic syndrome is being increasingly recognized as a worldwide epidemic and a major risk factor for CVD and other vascular events like stroke. Since last few decades, the global impact of infectious disease is decreasing while the global burden of chronic diseases (e.g. CVD and Diabetes) is on the rise.(1)The metabolic syndrome is defined as a clustering of key cardiovascular risk factors, namely, abdominal obesity, dyslipidemia, hyperglycemia and hypertension in a single individual(2). Gerald Reaven introduced the concept of the syndrome in 1988.
