Aim/Objective: To assess the effectiveness of progressive muscle relaxation technique on level of anxiety among patients with hypertension.

Methodology: A pre–experimental research design was used on 40 patients with hypertension residing in selected areasof District Ludhiana, Punjab. The convenience sampling technique was used to select the sample. Pre and post–interventional level of anxiety was assessed and compared by using Beck anxiety inventory Scale (1993).

Results: In pre–interventional assessment, 60% patients were having low level of anxiety followed by moderate (37.5%)and high (2.5%) level of anxiety whereas in post interventional assessment, 97.5% patients were having low level of anxiety followed by only moderate (2.5%)level of anxiety at p=0.000.There was a significant decrease in pre and post–interventional mean anxiety scores (17.75±9.35 vs 9.13±5.598, p=0.000) respectively. It reflects thatthere was a significant decrease in level of anxiety after administration of progressive muscle relaxation technique.
