Background: Maintaining high adherence is important to retain long term efficacy of antiretroviral therapy. With easy affordability and improved connectivity of mobile phones, a smartphone based application (app) can be a cost–effective tool for adherence promotion. The aim of this study was to ascertain acceptability of an indigenously developed HIV and AIDS self–care app “SATHI” among HIV infected individuals.

Methods: In this pilot study consecutive HIV sero–positive adults reporting for routine follow–up were offered app free of cost and feedback was obtained on its acceptability eight weeks post usage by a structured questionnaire.

Results: Of the 40 participants, 36 completed the post usage questionnaire and provided a score of 3.42 rating out of maximum 5.A total of 91.6% of individuals agreed that the app was helpful in enhancing the adherence

Conclusion: This pilot study indicated considerable interest and acceptability of an ART reminder app among HIV infected individuals.
