INTRODUCTION:

Kikuchi–Fujimoto disease (KFD), or histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis, is a benign and self–limiting disease that mainly affects young women. Patients present with localized lymphadenopathy, fever, and leukopenia in up to half of the cases. Kikuchi disease usually gets better (resolves) on its own within one to four months (although it may take up to a year), with or without treatment. The primary threat is a misdiagnosis of an infective, tuberculous or even a malignant pathology.

OBJECTIVES:

To study of clinical features and laboratory characteristics of histopathologically confirmed Kikuchi vs non Kikuchi disease andto evaluate their usefulness in the diagnosis of Kikuchi–Fujimoto disease.

METHODOLOGY:

160 cases of cervical lymphadenopathy between August 2013 and July 2018 were studied and the results analysed using Chi square test.

CONCLUSIONS:

Clinical features and lab parameters included in the study are significantly associated with presence of Kikuchi disease.
