Perinatal care is a type of preventive health care with the goal to monitor and promotes the well being of mother and baby and it is complete when health information is imparted. The knowledge, awareness and sensitivity of the gravid women can be enhanced with various teaching programmes. The aim of the study is to assess the effectiveness of Video Assisted Teaching Programme(VATP) regarding perinatal care on knowledge among 60 gravid women in a tertiary care hospital in Kolkata, using one group pretest post test design by consecutive sampling. The knowledge level was assessed using a self structured perinatal care knowledge questionnaire. 2 sessions of VATP was administered before posttest. The results showed the Wilcoxon value 6.73 at p< 0.0001 was more than the tabulated value (1.96) at p<0.05 which signified statistically significant difference between the knowledge scores of pre and post test, which concluded that the video assisted teaching programme was effective in improving the knowledge on perinatal care
