BACKGROUND : MDR – TB has emerged as a significant global health problem in recent time. The most important risk factor for the development of MDR–TB is previous irregular and inadequate anti–tuberculosis therapy. Category I pulmonary TB includes those patients who had never taken anti – tuberculosis therapy or had taken anti–tuberculosis therapy for less than one month duration. Category II pulmonary TB includes those patients who had failed previous TB treatment, relapsed after treatment, or defaulted from previous treatment. We will do this study to find out the prevalence of MDR – TB among pulmonary TB patients. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES : 1. To study the prevalence of multidrug – resistant tuberculosis among pulmonary tuberculosis patients. 2. To study the prevalence of multidrug – resistant tuberculosis among category I pulmonary tuberculosis patients. 3. To study the prevalence of multidrug – resistant tuberculosis among category II pulmonary tuberculosis patients. MATERIAL AND METHOD : This study was done on pulmonary TB patients diagnosed in NMCH, Jamuhar between June 2017 and December 2018. All pulmonary TB cases will be subjected to mycobacterial culture and drug–susceptibility testing (DST). MDR – TB will be defined as TB caused by TB bacilli having resistance to both isoniazid and refampicin. CONCLUSION : The prevalence of MDR – TB among pulmonary TB patients in our study came to be 9.73%. The prevalence of MDR – TB among category I pulmonary TB patients in our study came to be 2.73%. The prevalence of MDR – TB among category II pulmonary TB patients in our study came to be 12.32%
