Vitamin D deficiency reported in epidemic proportions worldwide including India. There is a paucity of data regarding vitamin D insufficiency among north–eastern Indian adult females. The present study was conducted to look into vitamin D status among adult non–pregnant females of north–eastern India, and to find its association with risk factors. Ninety two non–pregnant ladies aged 18–52 years were included in the study. Serum 25 OH Vitamin D total level was measured by Enzyme linked fluorescent assay (ELFA) method. 97.8%.of the studied population were found to have vitamin D deficiency/insufficiency. The Vitamin D deficiency/insufficiency is found to be more prevalent in younger age groups and more so in unmarried women. There is a significant negative correlation was found between socioeconomic status and measured vitamin D (p=0.00). Serum Immunoglobulin E (IgE) level showed negative correlation trend with vitamin D. Study showed a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency/insufficiency in the studied population similar to other parts of India
