Ankyloglossia or tongue–tie is a congenital anamoly which results in a short, tight lingual frenum. It has been reported to cause feeding difficulties in infants and speech problems, dyspnoea, social and mechanical problems in adults. Insertion of lingual frenum in the area of papilla had highest association with gingival recession. A 30 year old female patient reported to the Department of Periodontics of Sri Sai College of Dental Surgery with the chief complaint of deposits on the teeth, presented with aberrant lingual frenum inserted into the marginal gingiva causing gingival recession of both the lower central incisors lingually and mobility. Patient presented with difficulty in tongue movement, without any difficulty in speech. Patient was treated with laser Frenotomy using diode laser. Frenotomy was done to eliminate the tooth related risk factor, as it is important to arrest the progression of gingival recession for long–term stability of the teeth.
