Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases which if not controlled can cause life threatening complication. The objective of the study is to assess the correlation of urine microalbumin with HbA1C in type 2 DM patients. Total 180 patients diagnosed for type 2 DM, age 30–60 years were selected and fasting plasma glucose, creatinine,HbA1C and urine Microalbumin were estimated.HbA1C levels and Microalbumin levels shows significant positive correlation (r = 0.429, p<0.01) and the relationship is significant for all the three age groups. The study concluded that there was an increased prevalence of Microalbuminuria and high HbA1C level among the patients with type 2 DM, and also highlights that there is a significant correlation between Microalbumin levels and HbA1C for all the three age groups which necessitates for early detection of nephropathy and uncontrolled diabetes.
