Background: Myths and misconceptions about diabetes influence patient’s decision of seeking treatment and longer a person lives with misconceptions, the worse their health outcomes are likely to be. Materials and Methods: Cross–sectional study was carried out from September 2016 to January 2017 among known diabetics more than 18 years of age. A total of 400 diabetics were chosen from rural field practice area attached to PGIMS, Rohtak. Results: Among 400 rural participants, 212 (53%) were males and 188(47%) were females. Majority of rural participants were found to have moderate level misconception 312(78%) followed by 50 (12.5%) having high level misconceptions about Diabetes. Conclusion: The present study confirmed the presence of large number of myths and misconceptions about diabetes and its treatment. The reasons for prevailing myths and misconceptions are multifactorial.
