Background: Mobile phones are used by individuals of all age groups. The cell phone user gets exposed to harmful electromagnetic radiations, which can be analyzed using a parameter called Specific Absorption Rate (SAR). SAR defines the safety range of mobile handset. Many users are unaware of the SAR value, hence the relevance of the study. Objectives: To assess the awareness on SAR value of handset and the factors that influence awareness. Methodology: A cross sectional study was conducted among the medical students of Sree Mookambika Institute of Medical sciences, Kulasekharam from October to December 2019. The data were collected using a pretested, semi–structured questionnaire and analyzed. The percentages and frequencies were calculated. Results: Out of 210 medical students, only 8.1% were aware about SAR value. Conclusions: Awareness should be created about SAR value among the users of handset
