Prevalence of hypothyroidism was documented in ~4%–5% of population in the developed world, while in Indian population it was reported in around one in ten adults. A high prevalence of thyroid disease is seen among both type 1 (T1DM) and type 2 (T2DM) diabetes mellitus patients. Materials and Methods– Study conducted as cross–sectional, observational, prospective study, Consecutive 200 diabetic patients were included. All patients underwent clinical evaluation and laboratory evaluation. Clinical and Treatment history noted down. Blood samples were collected for estimation of TSH and diabetic profile. Results: Hypothyroidism was found in 14% (28/200) of the diabetic patients. Subclinical hypothyroidism found in 14/200 (7%) patients while overt hypothyroidism found in 14/200 patients. patients with hypothyroidism had higher BMI. Mean Diastolic Blood pressure came out to be significantly higher in hypothyroid subgroup. HbA1c was found to be statistically similar in both groups. Duration of diabetes was not different between hypothyroid and euthyroid groups. Conclusion – Hypothyroidism has been found in 14% of patients among them half belong to subclinical clinical category. Future studies should be planned to evaluate this complex interdependent relationship
