Background: Foot care is widely neglected by the diabetes patients. This study aimed at assessing the effectiveness of power point presentation with demonstration on the knowledge and practices regarding foot care among type II diabetic patients (T2DM). Material and Methods: Type II diabetes mellitus identified by a home survey in an East Delhi area were divided into three groups of 85 patients each. One group was randomly selected by lottery method for intervention by power point presentation with video demonstration (PPT) for foot care and other 170 served as controls. Pre and post–test evaluation were done after six months using pre–tested interview schedule on foot care knowledge and practices. X2, Mc Nemar’s, Fisher, ‘t’ test (paired and unpaired) were performed for comparison of knowledge and practices between study groups. ‘p’ less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results: Distribution of various socio–economic and demographic variables were similar between both PPT and control groups (p>0.05). PPT was effective than control in increasing knowledge regarding effect of diabetes on foot, steps of foot care (p<0.05). The mean foot care score in pre–test were 9.69+3.58 and 9.06+3.81 in PPT and control groups respectively. Post–test showed significant improvement in mean score to 39.61+1.45 in PPT (p<0.001) and but not in control group (9.41+3.73) (p=0.39). Conclusion: PPT with video demonstration showed effectiveness in increasing knowledge and practices regarding foot care among type II diabetic patients.
