Stroke is a major cause of morbidity and mortality and the second leading cause of death worldwide. This study aims to investigate the association between 25–hydroxyvitamin D deficiency and ischemic stroke. CASES: Patients visiting OPD or being admitted in general medicine ward with acute ischemic stroke within 7 days of onset in SSKM HOSPITAL from February 2016 to October 2017. CONTROLS: 100 age and sex matched patient attendees with no prior history of stroke. Prevalence of both mild and severe vitamin d deficiency was more in cases than controls. The prevalence of 25– OH Vitamin D Deficiency among Ischemic Stroke patients was 53% in the study conducted in our centre. The role of vitamin D deficiency as a direct causative factor of stroke has to be established for advocating vitamin D usage for stroke prevention.
