AIM: To evaluate the efficacy and outcome of using mifepristone and misoprostol for medical management of miscarriage < 12 weeks. METHODS: It was a prospective study over a period of 4 years and included 432 women who met the criteria for undergoing medical management of first trimester miscarriage on OPD basis. All such women received oral mifepristone 200 mgs followed by misoprostol 800 gms per vaginum. RESULTS: The successful outcome of medical management at day 7 assessed by history of passage of tissue per vaginum, clinical examination and USG was achieved in 360 women (83.3%). The patient satisfaction was high and the side effects were minor. CONCLUSION: The medical management of first trimester miscarriage by using oral mifepristone and per vaginum misoprostol on OPD basis is a safe and feasible method with high success rates and acceptable side effects.
