Introduction: Leiomyomas are benign smooth muscle tumors, associated with steroid harmones. The endometrium of the uterus is under the cyclical influence of the steroid hormones. There could be an association between the hormone influence on the leiomyoma and the endometrium changes associated with it. Aim: To study the correlation between endometrial changes and associated ER,PR density in a leiomyoma Materials and methods: A retrospective study of 102 cases of leiomyoma on which the endometrial changes and IHC for ER,PR were studied Results: There was a decrease in the density of the estrogen receptors moving from the normal endometrium towards hyperplasia . The progesterone receptor tends to constantly increase in density from the normal endometrium towards hyperplasia. Progesterone receptor density when gave a positive association with the endometrial changes. Conclusion: This shows that the progesterone receptors play a role in the pathogenesis of the endometrial changes associated with a leiomyoma.
