Objective: To study the incidence and possible role of chronic renal disease in hearing loss. Methods: 63 patients with chronic renal disease were studied. Patients were divided into three groups according to their age in order to make a precise comparison between their bone conduction thresholds and the corresponding normal audiograms. The age groups were as follows: Group A: 25–40 years. Group B: 41–55years. Group C: 56–75 years. The duration of chronic renal disease was taken into consideration and the relation between the duration of the disease and the degree of hearing loss was assessed. Clinical evaluation of all patients was done, followed by pure tone audiometry and analysis was done of bone conduction threshold. Results: The incidence and severity of hearing loss increased with the advancing age and duration of chronic renal disease. Conclusion: Patients with chronic renal disease had sensorineural deafness of greater severity which should be assessed and evaluated to halt its progression.
