DICLOFENAC ON POST-OPERATIVE PAIN AND ANALGESIC REQUIREMENT IN ELECTIVE ABDOMINAL HYSTERECTOMY S Dr. Singh T Dr. June 2020 9 6 01 02 ABSTRACT

Background: Pain during postoperative period is a cause of concern for surgeon and anaesthesiologist. Postoperative pain causes multiple systemic problems. Multimodal analgesia technique involving the use of smaller dose of opioids with non–opioid analgesic are becoming increasingly popular. Pregabalin originally developed as spasmolytic agent has a proven role in treating neuropathic pain. Diclofenac is a nonsteroidal anti–inflammatory class of drug which is widely used in many chronic inflammatory conditions and acute post surgical pain. Methods: Sixty six patients, ASA physical status I and II, 18 and 60 years, undergoing elective abdominal hysterectomy, were randomly assigned to two groups. Group P received cap Pregabalin 150 mg and Group D received tab Diclofenac 75mg orally 1 hour before surgery. Pain was assessed using VAS at 0, 1, 3,6,9,12,24 hours postoperatively. Result: VAS and analgesic requirement was lower in Pregabalin group but sedation was more in first 8 hours. Conclusion: Oral pregabalin was more effective in reducing postoperative pain and rescue analgesic requirement in patients undergoing elective abdominal hysterectomy
