Background: Hospital waste is infectious and hazardous. Almost 75–90% of the waste produced by hospitals is non–hazardous and it is estimated that remaining 10–25% carries a high potential for infection and injury. Objectives: To assess the knowledge and attitude regarding healthcare waste management among healthcare workers. Material & Methods: A cross–sectional descriptive self–administered questionnaire based study was conducted among health care workers of Rural Health Centre of district Bandipora of Kashmir. Results: Majority 72 (66.7%) were having 6–10years total duration of service, 76 (70.4%) belong to the age group 30 years and above and 60 (55.6%) were females. Almost all the participants were having correct knowledge regarding biomedical waste management and majority showed positive attitude regarding different aspects of waste management. Conclusions: There is a need for rigorous training programme for healthcare workers regarding bio–medical waste management and monitoring is needed.
