Background: Alcohol abuse and Alcohol related issue put a huge burden on society these days. Certain personality types are increasingly inclined for substance use. Certain dimensions of childhood temperament were found to be predictors of later alcohol problems, like novelty–seeking, harm avoidance and reward dependence. A psychological construct comprising the feeling of powerless, meaningless, isolation and self–estrangement, is linked to alcoholism Method: total 30 cases of alcohol dependence (ADS) were selected as per the inclusion and exclusion criteria laid down for the study, along with 30 healthy controls with age sex matched. Conclusion: Patient with alcohol dependence on temperament and character inventory scores found to be higher in Novelty seeking and low in self–directedness as compared to healthy controls
