Background :The term pterygium is derived from Greek word ‘pteron’ meaning wing. Pterygium is a triangular shaped growth onto cornea, usually nasally, of fibrovascular tissue that is continuous with conjunctiva. Objectives :To compare between intraoperative application of Daunorubicin (0.02 %), conjuctival autografting and Bare sclera technique and their effectiveness, effects and rate of recurrence. Material and Methods : Present study was conducted at Eye department at MGM Medical College and Hospital, Jhamshedpur, Jharkhand was analysed retrospectively. Results :When recurrence rates of groups I and II was compared. There was a significant difference between recurrence rate. When recurrence rates of group II and III were compared statistically the difference was not significant. Conclusion: With excision of pterygium with bare sclera technique recurrence rate is very high and it should be avoided, but excision of pterygium with conjunctival autografting and intraoperative application of daunorubicin (0.02 %) for 3 minutes are both equally effective adjuncts to prevent recurrence in pterygium surgery.
