Introduction: Lymphadenopathy is a common presenting symptom in benign, granulomatous, malignant and in many other diseases. Methods and material: In this prospective study, we studied fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) of enlarged lymph nodes in 245 cases during one year span and correlated with histopathology wherever possible. Results: Out of 245 patients, 99 (40.4%) were male and 146 (59.6%) were female with M: F ratio was 1:1.47. Age group ranges from 2 years to 81 years with the mean age of 33.3 years. Maximum numbers of lesions (25.3%) were found in age range of 21–30 years. The commonest site of lymphadenopathy was cervical (73%). Benign lesions (83.2%) were common as compared with malignant lesions (16.8). Histopathological diagnosis of 30 cases was available. Conclusion: FNAC is simple, rapid and inexpensive method of investigation for diagnosis of non–neoplastic and neoplastic lesions, thus reducing the burden of excisional biopsies and therefore, bed occupancy
