Abstract :
Attachment refers to the universal emotional bond, first arising between infant and primary caregiver, which involves the seeking out of a specific attachment figure in times of stress, and the use of this figure as a secure base in the exploration of the world (Ainsworth et al, 1978). The concept of attachment – whether secure or insecure – has cognitive, emotional and behavioral components. Studies examining adult attachment and psychopathology have found greater insecurity in psychiatric populations compared with healthy controls.
