Abstract :

A descriptive study to assess the knowledge and practice of body mechanics among staff nurses working in intensive care unit, selected tertiary care hospital, Kanchipuram district, Tamilnadu. The objectives are to assess the Knowledge and Practice regarding body mechanics among staff nurses working in Intensive Care Unit. To determine the association between the knowledge and Practice and selected social demographic variables regarding body mechanics among staff nurses working in Intensive Care Unit. The mean value is 15.3 and the standard deviation value is 1.87. Results reveals that there is having significant association between the level of age (x2 = 1.76), Year of service (x2=1.67) , Educational level (x2 = 1.04), Designation(x2 =2.14), BMI (x2 = 1.21), Exercise pattern (x2 =2.27). The Level of Knowledge are 0 % had inadequate knowledge, 14% had moderate knowledge and 86% had adequate knowledge.
