EFFECTS OF MATERNAL LITERACY ON NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF CHILD BETWEEN 0-1 YEAR IN SELECTED AREAS OF KUNDRATHUR

Abstract :

 The children are the backbone of the nation. Thus for their existence, they have to be cared and pampered in a proper way to survive against many health factors. The age from 0-1year of life is the crucial period that determines the health and welfare of a child in the future years. The present study aimed to assess the effect of maternal literacy on nutritional status of child between 0-1 year. 30 mothers who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were selected randomly. The pre-test was assessed using a semi structured questionnaire and the teaching programme was given to mothers. After that post-test was conducted. The result showed that the mean level of knowledge was 16.66 with standard deviation of 4.52 in pre-test and 23.83 with standard deviation of 2.35 in post-test, there was a statistically significant difference with paired ’t’ value of 6.722 at p<.05 level.
