Abstract :

HIV infection is a cardiovascular risk factor. With antiretroviral triple therapy, patients  life expectancy is increasing, but the induction of metabolic, dyslipidic, insulin resistance, and clinical lipoatrophy are leading to earlier coronary or cereovascular complications. We wanted to study the prevalence and lipid profile of people living with HIV (PLWHIV) in a multicenter case–control study conducted in different hospitals in Dakar (Senegal). From this serie, we observed a statistically more frequent total hypercholesterolemia (p = 0.001) in treated PLWHIV, a statistically more frequent hypoHDLemia in untreated PLWHIV (p = 0.03), and a higher cardiovascular risk in PLWHIV on anti–retroviral therapy (ARV) (p = 0.01).
