Abstract :

Pain after abdominal surgery will limits the physical functioning including the ability to cough, deep eath, move, sleep and self–care activities. Hence the study aimed to determine the effectiveness of hand and foot massage on reduction of post–operative pain among patients who have undergone abdominal surgery. Quasi experimental research design was employed with 30 samples matched the inclusion criteria and were selected by non–probability convenience sampling technique. Pre–test was done by using numerical pain scale for both experimental and control group. Experimental group received hand and foot massage twice a day for five days. At the end of fifth days post–test was done for both experimental and control group. The result of the study reveals that there is significant reduction in the level of pain after the hand and foot massage.
