Abstract :

A pot experiment was designed in a green house to study the effect of gibberellic acid on Zea mays L. seedlings grown in 25, 50, 100 mM NaCl. Salinity induced marked decreases in growth parameters ( shoot and root lengths, shoot and root fresh and dry weights and leaf area ) , photosynthetic pigments ( chlorophylls a , b and carotenoids ) insoluble sugars and some mineral nutrients as K , Ca and Mg contents . The effects of NaCl on the previous parameters were increased with NaCl concentrations . Application of GA3 counteracted the NaCl deleterious effects on Zea mays seedlings by lowering the levels of Na and increasing the K , Ca and Mg levels . It also caused a significant increases in photosynthetic pigments , insoluble sugars and proline .
