Oral Hygiene Practices in patients visiting Dental Teaching Hospital: A Questionnaire based Study

Abstract :

Background: Importance of oral health in general well being of individuals is well understood. One of the biggest risk factor for any oral disease is poor oral hygiene. The study was conducted to assess the oral hygiene practices and oral health status of patients visiting outpatient department of dental teaching hospital. Methods: This descriptive, cross–sectional study was conducted on 75 participants with the help of a questionnaire and oral examination by a trained dentist. Results: 71 (94.67%) participants used ushing to maintain oral hygiene. On an average, the participants enrolled in this study changed their ush every 4.24 months. 60% of the participants had untreated dental caries. Conclusions: The oral hygiene awareness was poor in the study population. Oral health information program could prove pivotal in upliftment of oral hygiene status.
