ORAL SUBMUCOUS FIBROSIS: TARGETING ETIOPATHOGENESIS

Abstract :
Oral Submucous Fiosis `is one of the premalignant condition involving the oral cavity & pharynx. It is a chronic, progressive, scarring disease that predominantly affects the people in India and Southeast Asia. It predominantly occurs in the Indian subcontinent where the habit is more prevalent, so chewing of arecanut is an important factor in the aetiology of OSMF. Several factors such as chilli consumption, nutritional deficiency, genetic susceptibility, autoimmunity and collagen disorders have been suggested to be involved in the pathogenesis of this condition. The main aim of this presentation is to review the various factors involved in the etiopathogenesis of OSMF.
