Abstract :
Blunt abdominal trauma remains one of the leading emergency encountered in the hospital. Usage of appropriate diagnostic tools can reduce preventable deaths due to missed injuries and unnecessary urgent laparotomies. This prospective study was done to evaluate the role of computed tomography (CT scan) in accurate assessment of blunt trauma abdomen patients.70 cases of blunt abdominal injury were included in the study after taking written informed consents. Patients were clinically examined and investigated. CT scan was done. Record was made of age, sex, type of injury and scan results. Organ injury was graded using OIS(Organ Injury Scale ) guidelines. 94% patients were positive for abdominal injury whereas 6% were negative. Spleen(40%) was the commonest organ injury involved. In conclusion CT scan showed a sensitivity of 98.4% and specificity of 100% in evaluation of blunt abdominal trauma. In evaluation of blunt abdominal injury CT scan is reliable
