Abstract :

Cholelithiasis, a common digestive disorder, with the advent of laparoscopy, surgical community witnessed a revolution in basic ideology and the importance of minimal access surgery. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (LC) in cases of complicated calculous cholecystitis, which in this study includes: Patients with Calculous Cholecystitis with Mucocele gall bladder (GB), Empyema GB, Gangrenous GB, Perforated GB, common bile duct (CBD) stones with cholangitis/pancreatitis. LC is preferred even for complicated cases of calculous cholecystitis and the risk of intraoperative and post–operative complications can be reduced by judicious use of diathermy and harmonic energy sources, fundus first technique when necessary, Endoscopic Retrograde Cholagiopancreaticography (ERCP) pre operatively in cases of CBD stone, early cholecystectomy (within 72 hours) post ERCP.
