A cross sectional study to assess risk factors and financial treatment characteristics of hypertensive patients in district Ambala.

Abstract :

Background : Hypertension is an important health problem globally and its increasing epidemicity is becoming a major threat. In addition to the direct costs there are also indirect costs related to lost man hours and savings among workers due to catastrophic healthcare expenditures . Aims and Objectives: To assess risk factors and financial treatment characteristics of hypertensive patients in district Ambala. Material and methods: This cross–sectional study was conducted in field practice area of department of community medicine of MMMU, Mullana, District Ambala over period of one year from 1 January to 31st December 2016. Results : The maximum proportion (62.1%) population spent more than 500 INR per month on medications.54.3% of the study population used their own financial support for buying medication. Conclusions: Health system should give priority to low income families and provide free supply of all classes of anti hypertensives.
