A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY OF FETAL OUTCOME FOLLOWING TRIAL OF LABOR AMONG PATIENTS WITH PREVIOUS CESAREAN SECTION

Abstract :

Aims:

To assess the fetaloutcome following trial of labor(TOL) after previous cesarean section(CS).

Materials and Methods:This was descriptive type of observational study conducted inSMS Medical College, Jaipur. 75 well dated pregnant ladies with singleton pregnancy were enrolled in the study as per inclusion/exclusion criteria. TOL was given to all selected cases and outcome was studied in relation to birth weight, apgar score with perinatal morbidity and mortality.

Results:In the present study, 73.33% cases had a successfulvaginal delivery and 26.67% underwent a repeat CS due to failed TOL. 96% cases had newborns with a 5 minute apgar score >7 and 4% had apgar<7.Incidence of perinatal morbidity and mortality in present study was 4% and 1.33% respectively.

 

Conclusion:TOL after previous CS in selected cases has great importance in the present era of the rising rate of primary CS.
