A KAP STUDY ON SNAKE BITES AMONG THE AGRICULTURAL WORKERS OF WEST GODAVARI DISTRICT, AP STATE

Abstract :

Introduction: WHO had listed snake bite envenoming as a highest priority neglected tropical disease in June 2017. Objective: To assess the knowledge, attitude and practices of the agricultural workers regarding the do’s and do not’s of snake bites and envenoming. Materials And Methods: A Community based Cross–sectional study was conducted using multi stage sampling method from (July 2019 to September 2019), involving all the agricultural workers of Eluru revenue division of West Godavari District, who fit the inclusion criteria and gave consent. Accounting for a sample size (n) of 1400. Results: About 12pc had history of snake bite. Around 98pc knew that all snake bites were not poisonous. About 68pc had adequate knowledge and 44pc had proper practices. About 8pc still preferred traditional methods of treatment. Conclusion: People with adequate knowledge were more than that of adequate practice.
