Abstract :

The objective of the study was to evaluate the pattern and prevalence of mandibular fractures that reported at our institution. A retrospective analysis of 57 subjects with 82 mandibular fractures from July 2016 to June 2019 was done. Maximum numbers of cases were recorded between July 2016–June 2017 (54.4%) with majority belonging to the age group of 21–40 years (71.9%) with a male preponderance (80.7%). Parasymphysis was the most common site of fracture (22.8%). Road traffic accident (RTA) was the common etiologic factor (54.4%). Concomitant mid–face fracture were seen in 15.8% cases. Our study revealed that the peak incidence of mandibular fracture was seen in the age group of 21–40 years. Incidence was higher in males. Road traffic accident (RTA) was the major cause of mandibular fracture and parasymphysis was the most common site of fracture. The incidence and etiology of mandibular fracture reflects trauma patterns within the region and, as such, can provide a guide to the design of programs and strategies oriented towards prevention and treatment.
